Girlguiding @ Gloucester Salvation Army
Girlguiding Activities have been a part of the Salvation Army in Gloucester for
many years. In the beginning they were known as Sunbeams and Guards and it wasn’t
until 1960 that the Brownie unit began as we know it today.
Since then we have grown as a section adding Guides, Rangers and finally Rainbows.
The girls in our units are given the opportunity to have fun, build life-long friendships,
gain valuable life skills and make a positive difference to their lives and their
communities, all in a girl only space.
We give the girls the opportunity to be themselves, and welcome girls from all walks
of life, circumstances and faiths. We are also fully integrated and experienced
in including girls with disabilities.
All our units meet on a Thursday evening at The Salvation Army Hall giving the girls
a seamless transition between the sections.
If you would like to come and join us, it's only £2 a week with a small joining
fee to cover your initial goodies! Please feel free to contact us on either
01452 311332 or email
us.
Our Rainbow unit, for girls aged 5-7 years, meets on a Thursday between 4:30-5:30pm.
We have been running Rainbows at 17th Gloucester Girlguiding since June 2009 and
we have seen many girls pass through our Rainbow unit, to Brownies and even Guides!
At Rainbows we have fun following the Rainbow Jigsaw programme choosing our
own activities from our Rainbow Roundabouts. We take trips to the park, do art activities,
games, trips away and much much more!
Our Brownie unit, for girls aged 7-11 years, meets on a Thursday between 5:30–7:00pm.
The Brownie unit has been a strong part of 17th Gloucester Girlguiding for over
50 years! We follow our Brownie Adventure in our sixes, which are the smaller groups
we move into for activities. Our sixes are called the Gnomes, Elves, Pixies and
Leprechauns.
At Brownies we take part in lots of fun activities, like cooking, art activities;
we have visitors come in and much much more. We also have brownie sleepovers and
pack holiday weekends where we have adventures in a new place!
As a Brownie you will also be able to work towards your Brownie Adventure badges
and other interest badges that you can complete on your own or with the rest of
the Brownies.
Our Guide unit, for girls aged 11-14 years, meets on a Thursday between 6:30–8:00pm.
The Guide unit at 17th Gloucester Girlguiding has been an important part of the
section throughout the Girlguiding journey at the Salvation Army in Gloucester.
In Guides we make things happen, exploring our individual skills and abilities
and trying out new challenges and experiences. We work through Guide Go for Its
and various challenges and badges. In addition we help the local communities and
charities at all opportunities.
The best thing about Guides is that you get to go on Guide Camps and do lots of
adventurous activities. Like all the other Girlguiding activities you will get to
choose your own activities and plan your own programme together so you can guarantee
you will have lots of fun!
Just a quick reminder that if you would like to come and join us, it's only £2
a week with a small joining fee to cover your initial goodies! Please feel free
to contact us on either 01452 311332 or
email us.
